How To Avoid Rapid Mattress Deterioration
Mattresses do not last forever. In fact, many people find themselves owning a saggy and depressed mattress sooner than expected. While you can't expect your mattress to last forever, you would want to add more years to its life. This will help give you endless nights of comfortable sleep and will help you save money.
Use the following tips if you want to avoid rapid mattress deterioration:
1. Clean your bed regularly.
Periodically vacuum your mattress to avoid the build-up of dust mites and dirt particles. If there are any stains, remove them pronto. Do not wait for them to harden up and cause the production of molds and germs.
One of the best natural cleaners for mattresses is vinegar. Just mix distilled white vinegar with a water. Place it in a spray bottle. Spray the cleaner on the surface of the mattress or the stained parts of the bed. Leave it there for about an hour. If the stains have dissolved completely, you can continue cleaning by wiping the surface of the bed with a damp cloth. If the satins haven't dissolved yet, try a soft-bristled brush to brush the surface of the bed and remove the stains.
2. Try placing a supportive wooden slat underneath the bed.
While box springs already work in supporting the mattress, it is still ideal to have a good platform to support your mattress further. This will help prevent sagging. This will also make sure that the foams inside will stay intact.
3. Avoid sitting on the edge of the bed.
It will cause sagging on the edges of the mattress. Do not use the edges as a sitting area. If possible, place an ottoman close to the bed to serve as your sitting place.
4. Try to rotate the bed periodically.
This will help even out wear and tear. You can also try flipping the mattress if it is a two-sided bed. Some mattresses today are one-sided only because the bottom part of the bed has been incorporated with stiff and solid foams.
5. Use a good mattress topper.
If you are using the kind of mattress with a removable topper, occasionally replace the topper. Replacing the topper is relatively more inexpensive than replacing the whole mattress. Choose a good mattress topper with a good foam density. This will provide a good amount of support to your body.
These are the tips you would want to use if you want to add more years to the life of your mattress.
