The Role of Marketing in Rapid Weight Loss

It seems that much of the literature published by amateur writers on the web has much to do with marketing intent. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with people making money - far from it - but when one is searching the web for information, there are a number of things to beware of. In some ways, searching for product information on the world wide web is much like trying to gather information about a used car from a used car salesman!

The first thing to avoid is any page resulting from a pay-per-click search. These of course are the search results you see at the right side of the page, or highlighted at the top of your search results. If you are truly looking for information, than getting it from someone who is trying to sell you something is counterproductive. And of course, if someone is listed in paid searches, he or she obviously wants to sell you something.

This is not to infer that paid searches are an evil in and of themselves. If your quest is to find a product to buy, paid searches are often the way to go. On an information hunt though, they should be overlooked.

Secondly, it is good to avoid so-called "review" sites. Nine times out of ten, such review sites are merely thinly disguised marketing pages. Again, though there's nothing wrong with people trying to make a buck, information gained from a site where the writer has obvious ulterior motives is only going to lead you to a separation from your cash at considerable risk.

Finally, look for sources. Is there any evidence that caralluma suppresses the appetite? Have scientists anywhere documented the effectiveness of hoodia? Does Chuck Norris really use an all-in-one exercise machine? This is a great way to separate sites that have true information from those who are just in it to get a commission. You will be lucky to find one in ten that reliably source their information (undocumented testimonials don't count).

In the interest of full disclosure, I should note that I run a small site promoting the appetite-control herb, caralluma fimbriata. I do so, because I believe appetite control is the real key to weight loss, at least for a large segment of the population, and that natural solutions are by far superior to chemical. What I do not do, however is try to convince you that the product does miracles or throw in claims that I can not personally back up or source.

That being said, it is possible for a site to both: provide you with reliable information and still make and honest dollar, pound, or euro on the side. So keeping the above three guidelines in mind for almost any web search, but especially in a profitable market like rapid weight loss will insure that when and if you purchase a product to aid you, it will be one that is both effective and safe.
