Rapid Potty Training Success

A large part of finding rapid potty training success is knowing exactly what to expect if you enter the potty training process knowing what you need, how to get it, and how to maintain your momentum - you'll be able to ditch the diapers in no time!

Successful potty training is all about expectations. These are the three things you should be aware of before you start, as you train, and as you finish.

  1. There will be accidents. It is unreasonable to expect your child to not have any accidents whatsoever during the process. One of the fastest ways to see success is to allow your child to feel the discomfort of being wet or dirty. This doesn't mean leaving them in their mess all day, the long enough for them to know they don't like it. This means your house will get dirty, your floors will get wet, and you will have to clean it. Be okay with that and you will be finished sooner.

  2. You will get frustrated. That's okay, frustration is a part of life. Imagining for a moment that you can teach your child without any difficulty, and that every moment will be brimming with smiles, only makes the natural challenge that much more impossible. Just like a difficult class in school, you knew you had your work cut out for you. Potty training might be hard, but it will be over soon. After all, you've never seen a high school wearing Huggies, have you?

  3. Everyone will have something to say. This is one of the hardest parts about parenting in general. As soon as friends, family, and even neighbors know you are teaching your toddler, everyone seems to come out of the woodwork with about 1,000,001 words of advice. The best thing to do? Ignore them, or at least take everything with a grain of salt. Nobody can teach your child like you can. You know them best, as well as what will probably work and what probably won't. Just because something worked for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. Keep your eye on the finish line and you're likely to get there with a lot less frustration.

Potty training isn't necessarily easy, but it doesn't have to be hard. Take it day by day and celebrate every success. Pretty soon, you'll have ditched the diapers and will be snuggling with your own toilet trained toddler in no time!
